What is a stitch count and why it doesn’t matter

If you have ever needed to have a shirt embroidered with your logo, you have most likely encountered the term “stitch count” or “thread count”.  While technically they mean different things, in the context of embroidery, many people understand them to mean the same thing.

Stitch count, in its simplest form, is defined as the number of embroidery stitches it takes to create a logo in embroidery.

How many stitches it takes to create a logo in embroidery is in direct relation to the size or complexity of the logo.  The bigger the image, the more stitches need to create it in embroidery.  Pretty simple stuff, right?

Some custom embroidery shops price their work by stitch count.  It stands to reason, the more stitches in a design, the longer it takes to embroider the logo.  The longer it takes to embroider the logo, the more it costs.

The amount of stitches it can take to embroider a logo can vary greatly.  A very simple logo with very few elements going on the left chest can take a little as 1500 stitches.  A larger and more complex logo going on the left chest can require up to 15,000 stitches.

The average logo that we at Thread Logic embroider on the left chest is about 8000 stitches.

So that begs the question, how many stitches are in your logo?  Well frankly, you have no idea-nor should you.  You have better things to worry about than the number of stitches it takes to create your logo in embroidery.

And here is why it doesn’t matter.  At Thread Logic, we don’t price custom embroidered products by the stitch count.  We don’t care about the stitch count.  We use a flat pricing model so the prices you see on our website include the embroidery of your logo.  It is just that simple.

The biggest reason we adopted this flat pricing model is to make it easier for customers to know exactly what the price of an item is without having to get a quote or figure out the stitch count of their logo first.  It takes all the guess work out of the shopping process for you.
